Hi, I’m Suzanne and I run Ditsy’s Cakes.

I’m a busy mum of teenagers, 2 dogs, a cat and most recently a rescue rabbit. I’m a little bit quirky and obsess far too much over tiny details, but am often told that’s what sets my cakes apart from many others. I can’t help it, I like things just so down to the tiniest of details!

Before I discovered I could not only bake cakes but decorate them, I studied Business Management and Communications at Winchester University and gained my BA Honours degree. I worked in various admin based roles after graduation, mostly in the finance sector.

My final job before my cake adventures began was working in customer relations in a bank dealing with all aspects of banking complaints over an 11 year period.

I used to take in various cakes and biscuits into the office, all normal traditional things like shortbread and Victoria sponge etc. I was asked by my boss if I’d make a briefcase shaped cake with various personal items for a colleague who was retiring. I agreed to give it ago and so discovered I could decorate cakes and became instantly addicted! People seemed to really like it (makes me laugh to look at it now compared to the cakes I now produce but was very proud of it at the time) and started to ask me to make cakes for them. You’ll see some fine examples of my early work including the infamous briefcase cake that started it all.

Redundancy soon followed so I decided to spend a year honing and fine tuning my cake skills before I released myself into the cake industry as a business. Ditsy’s Cakes was officially born in April 2014 and I never looked back.

I initially started with general celebration cakes and started doing wedding cakes in 2016. I love creating intricately detailed and unique custom creations for any event and have won multiple awards within the cake industry. To date I’ve been awarded a merit for my piece at Cake International at the Birmingham NEC in November 2019 and a Bronze award for my entry in the Welsh Cake Show in February 2019.
